This time around I decided to review Sacred Tales of India by D.N. Neogi. I chose to look at the Internet Archive version of this book so that I could get a different view from that of Hathi trust. I decided to read a story in the book called "The Goddess who Devoured Elephants." This story was found on pages 48-57 of the book.
As I read this story, I was really intrigued by it. It turned out to be a little longer than I expected, but it was a good story. I was really confused for a good portion of the story about where the elephant goddess was going to come in. However, she came in at a later point in time. I think that this book would be a good addition to an UnTextbook for Indian Epics. It shows a very real part of Indian culture and their fear of doing things wrong.
Overall, the story that I read was easy to read and also interesting. I think this unit would prove to be an enjoyable one, as long as the right stories are picked from the book. Some definitely look more interesting than others.
