I feel as though the commenting in this class has been really beneficial. I enjoy it because it has helped me to connect to other people in the class. The comment assignment has also been useful because I am able to draw writing ideas from other students in the class and I get to read their stories, which happen to be really good!
I think the most helpful comments on my blog have been from people who really take the time to read my work and correct my mistakes. Also, the comments that make suggestions as to how I can improve upon my current stories are a huge help!
I think the easiest part about writing comments is pointing out where people can improve and encouraging them in their writing. The hardest part though, is the length requirement. This is especially difficult on project comments. Some times I have over 150 words to say, but a lot of times I don't! So I feel like I end up talking about trivial things.
I am not sure how this would work, but I think that assigning people comment groups at the beginning of the semester (with a free choice option as well) would really help that group to connect more, and see how the other people's writing is improving!

Hey Dakota!
ReplyDeleteI hope that your semester is going well! I completely agree with you about the commenting being beneficial in this class. It really does help all of us connect. I feel like if we didn't comment this class would feel really different. I feel that I definitely get ideas from others when I am reading their posts. I actually got the idea to write in another character's point of view from you a couple weeks ago!
I also agree that commenting has tremendously helped, especially when people take the time to really read and critique your work. Also, sometimes it is hard to meet the required length without just going on about trivial things. I really like your idea about assigning groups to see how other peoples writing is improving over the semester. It is really great to watch other students grow as well as yourself. With blogs, we are able to see that.
ReplyDeleteHello Dakota, how are you doing? I also agree with you when you said that commenting is beneficial for the class. Feedback from the students help encourage my storytelling and progress on my writing skills. If we did not have to do commenting assignments then this class would be a very quiet one.
