Writing Review Week

When I enrolled in this class, I thought it would just be a lot of reading long books and taking quizzes and tests online. I am really glad it didn't turn out that way, but I honestly think the way this class is set up is more difficult for me than just taking tests! This actually requires that I put some creative thinking on the table and improve my writing. As an International Security Studies major, there is little room for creative writing. It's all fact-based research papers about subjects that can be pretty depressing. However, this class has been a breath of fresh air! It's been a difficult one, but a fun one nonetheless. I guess it's been difficult because I really haven't had to do any creative writing since my TAKS standardized tests in high school.

I've learned a lot about myself and how much I lack in the creative writing area. However, I have really enjoyed getting good feedback and seeing directly how I can improve my writing. The last writing classes that I had just seemed to give me vague comments and rarely any feedback. But I always get in-depth notes about what I should change and links to different sources that can help me out!

The image I have included comes from my week 5 story about the Funeral of Jatayu. I really enjoyed writing this story because I was able to go to a Hindu burn house, which gave me background knowledge of what a Hindu funeral is like.

  1. Hey Dakota!
I agree with you that this class is a breath of fresh air! I have never been in a class like this, so I like that this is different. I feel like this class has helped me a lot, as well. I am definitely not a writer, but I can see improvement in myself and others from the beginning of the semester!
