नमस्कार,
Well, a month has passed. I've survived South Asia, for now! As I continue to settle into my new flat, a new life, and new responsibilities, I can't help but be shocked at how time is flying. I feel as though I just got here, but four weeks have already passed! This reminds me to stay on my a-game, because my time will be finished here before I know it! However, I can't help but look forward to the many things I will get to experience in the near future. In March I will be visiting the state of Rajasthan. I'll get to see a landscape other than the sprawling metropolis that I live in, and get to see the famous filming location of The Dark Knight Rises. I. Am. Pumped. Hopefully, I'll get to visit Mumbai in the near future as well. For vacation in May, I am going to Sri Lanka. Then in June I get to spend a week camping in the foothills of the Himalayas. Jealous yet?
As of right now, I am pondering the idea of staying in India until the end of the summer, or year. I really enjoy life here, and have no doubt that I will return some day after graduation. We'll see soon enough.
I visited another slum this week, and was shocked to learn they had running water. I was really glad to learn this, though. One thing I didn't anticipate was being offered water straight from the ground. Refusing water is a big cultural no-no, though. So, I gladly drank the water, and was lucky enough not to get sick! Then today I was fed a home-cooked meal. It was really good, less the chicken spine and liver that I was served. The people here have wonderful hearts, though. I seriously have so much to learn in the area of hospitality.
As for class, I'm still trying to keep up! My plan is to start working a few weeks ahead, so that I can finish up a little early and not have so much to worry about when I start traveling more. I hardly have Internet now, much less when I am moving about. I should be getting advised for grad school soon....and I'm hoping that there is enough offered online for me to stretch out my stay here.
I got to talk to a man in Starbucks about the Ramayana yesterday! It was cool to hear what he had to say about it, and to meet a Hindu that actually read about their teachings!
