So, I hated this part in Narayan's Ramayana, and I hate it in Buck's as well. Shurpanakha just really grates my nerves! She has got to be my least favorite character in the Ramayana. Who in their right mind is going to marry someone who proposes to them in the woods? Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but i've been stalking you, marry me maybe? That's how I picture that conversation happening in modern times. And then, to top it all off, Shurpanakha has to go tattle to Ravana. Like that is going to help anything. Based off of all the trouble that Shurpanakha causes in the end, she gets what she rightfully deserves.
Other than that part of the story, I didn't feel very much invested in other parts of the story. I feel like this reading was a little more difficult for me to accomplish, partially because I have been so busy with internship stuff. However, I feel like there is so much more information in this version of the Ramayana to take in. I would like to read it again some day, when I can read leisurely, rather than hurriedly.
